My Monteverde Costa Rica Tree House Adventure

You know that feeling, when a moment feels so right, so perfect that it makes you smile? That is what I felt once I took my first breath in Costa Rica. This country was the starting point of my new journey; I couldn?t help but feel giddy. I just needed to get out of the airport first.

I decided on a starting point, Costa Rica and after that, I left my plans open. There were those obvious things any traveler seeks: adventure, a new language and to see what each country offers. Here in Costa Rica, it is the bio-diversity. After San Jose, I jumped a bus to Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Talk about a night and day difference in locations. Costa Rican terrain changes rapidly, therefore, its climate does as well. The beach was great and the heat was even better. I spent two weeks on the beach in Santa Teresa. Living the life of a surfer armed with a few books. If you would like to try surfing, please prepare yourself to be put through the gauntlet. Your body might reject the feeling of being ripped, pulled, smacked, flipped, rolled, battered and flattened by the water. The surf in Santa Teresa is up. It is a fun challenge; some might choose a weekend at the in-laws instead.

If you have surfed, you already understand what it feels like to learn how. If not and you are planning on a surf lesson or two get ready a workout and for your lungs to be rinsed out with salt water, similar to being in a washing machine, just a bit larger. Yes, I enjoyed it; some might find it similar to a trip to the dentist!

The rich bio-diversity of Monteverde will wow any traveler. Everything is green. Everything except the animals, reptiles and butterflies. Spend a day walking in the lush cloud forest and you?ll understand why this is such an understatement.

During the final weeks in the states, my family and friends shared all of their Costa Rican contacts, just in case. By chance, there was one contact on the list located in Monteverde. With nothing to lose, I got a local map and set off to put a face to the name.

I spent the up-hill hike dreaming about what this hotel would look like. With a name like Hidden Canopy, anything was really possible. Would the tree houses take me back to the Peter Pan days or would I be lost in the jungle like Tarzan? My thoughts took me into another world.

When I snapped back into real-time, I found myself at the door of Hidden Canopy Tree house Boutique Hotel. It was perfectly placed in the mountains, facing west towards the Gulf of Nicoya. I spent a few moments catching my breath, from both the views and the hike! Then, continued on with the tour.

There are four tree houses in total, all creatively tucked into the forest, offering privacy and luxury in the trees. The tree house Eden had me practically jumping, a waterfall shower that led to a Jacuzzi , surrounded by glass. What a perfect vacation spot for any traveler. It sounds like a dream, but it cannot be, I saw it with my own eyes.
