Beautiful Sightseeing Formentera, Pine Islands Spain

You won\’t be short of places to visit on Formentera. It has sights of natural beauty such as Platja des Canyers, and man-made features such as Ses Salines. Let\’s look at some of the options…

Ses Salines is the name of a beach that that is behind the salts works of the same name. If you head from Llevant beach you will get to the Ses Salines beach. It is not overly crowded as it is sandwiched between two superior beaches: Es Pujols and Levant.

Canyers Beach, or Platja de Canyers, is worth a visit. It is twelve meters deep and surrounded by beautiful cliffs. It is pretty close to Es Pujols so even if you are having a resort style vacation you can make your way there.

Cala Saona should be on everyone\’s itinerary. It is the island\’s only natural cove and has a great beach. The beach measures 140 meters across and has some old fishing boats either side. It is just down the road from Sant Francesc and if you have some energy it is only a 30 minute cycle through fields of carob to get there.

Years ago at this cove more than 400 ships were anchored at port, but when you visit the beach these days it\’s hard to picture the scene in the 1500s. You do still see a few escars that shelter fishing boats, but it is not really used as much of a fishing port these days. Nor is it used as a place to breed and train falcons, which used to be the case.

The waters around the area are frequented by divers who enjoy frequenting the many caves in the area, however, if you prefer to be above ground then a cliff top walk to Punta Rasa offers some pretty spectacular views. There are also some decent hiking and biking trails in the farmland behind the beach.

The one ugly building here is a hotel.

Espalmador is the island just north of Es Trucadors and is known for its sulphur mud baths. These do not have proven scientific benefit, but that doesn\’t stop thousands of holidaymakers from rolling around in them naked. It is quite an amazing site to behold, and you may even see some mud wrestling.
